Specialized Surgical Care for TN, HFS, and Skull Base ConditionsThe Last Hope

ABOUT

What Are Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemifacial Spasm?

Trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm are conditions caused by contact or compression of a cranial nerve by a blood vessel.

Trigeminal neuralgia is characterized by severe facial pain, while hemifacial spasm causes involuntary contractions of the facial muscles. Both conditions can significantly impair a patient’s quality of life.

By separating the offending blood vessel from the affected nerve, improvement or complete resolution of symptoms can be expected. These procedures, known as microvascular decompression (MVD) , are performed at many medical institutions throughout Japan.

Our Expertise

At our hospital, we primarily treat patients with complex and high-difficulty cases.

In patients who have not achieved sufficient improvement at other institutions, those with recurrent symptoms, or those with anatomically challenging conditions, a surgical approach incorporating advanced skull base surgery techniques is often required.

A Specialized Center as the Final Treatment Option

The Trigeminal Neuralgia & Hemifacial Spasm / Skull Base Surgery Team at Koto Memorial Hospital provides surgical treatment as a “last hope” for patients with refractory conditions.

In addition to patients from across Japan, we also offer specialized surgical care to patients from overseas.

If you have not experienced sufficient improvement with previous treatments, we encourage you to consult us.
